Eugene J. (Gene) Hickingbotham of Carrollton, Texas passed away at Trinity Medical Center in Carrollton, Texas on April 20, 2009. He was born in McGehee, Arkansas on October 12, 1922, the son of the late Rae Curtis Hickingbotham and Mamie Howard Hickingbotham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Sommerville, his parents, one brother, Ray Curtis Hickingbotham, Jr. three sisters, Maxine, Elizabeth Ann, and Maurine Mazzanti. He is survived by one son, Gene Ray Hickingbotham and his wife Kimberly Hudgens Hickingbotham of Carrollton, Texas, formerly of Little Rock, two brothers, Bobby Joe and his wife Gail of Jacksonville, and Frank and his wife Georgia of Little Rock. Three nephews, Herren and Todd of Little Rock, and Barry of Jacksonville. One niece, Carol Solstad, of Lawton, Ok. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Coast Guard. After the war, he lived in California where he served for 33 years as the Manager of Operations for the Horseman’s Quarterhorse Racing Association at Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress, CA. Upon his retirement in 1989, he moved to Las Vegas, Nv. until relocating to Carrollton, Texas in 2007. Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Memorial Park in North Little Rock.
