The Honorable Eugene Joseph Langone, Jr., 64, of Watertown, passed away suddenly at home on June 20, 2025.
Gene was born July 14, 1960, in New Hartford, NY. He is survived by his parents, Eugene J. Sr. and Mary Susan Langone; his wife, Amy, of 37 years and children, David Joseph (Lyndsay) Payne, Nicole Danielle (James) Morrissey, and John Rocco (Tarrah) Langone; Grandchildren, Caraline Mary, Layla Rose, and William Joseph Payne; James Declan and Addison Jade Morrissey. Siblings, Anthony Langone, Susan Brooker, and Timothy Langone. Niece, Hannah Rodda, and Nephew, Michael Langone. He was predeceased by his loyal canine companion, Jack.
He graduated from Herkimer Community College in 1981, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in 1983 and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1987. He was admitted to the NYS Bar and U.S. District Court in 1988.
Gene was elected to serve as Jefferson County Family Court Judge in 2014, retiring at the end of December 2024. Gene began his career with Kurtz and Assoc. before he served as Jefferson County Attorney and, in 1995, he went into private practice with Hrabchak, Gebo and Langone, PC.
Gene was a former member of the 5th Judicial District Attorney Grievance Committee and was elected to serve on the 5th Judicial District Republican Supreme Court Nominating Convention in 2011 & 2013.
Gene was a member of the Jefferson County Bar Association, serving on the Executive Committee and, in 2009, as president. He also was a member of the NYS Bar Association.
Gene served on the board of the Victims Assistance Center, Family Counseling Services, and was a member and trainer for the Youth Court Advisory Board as well as the Juvenile Crime Enforcement Coalition Advisory Board. He Judged for the NYS Mock Trial competition for High School Students and was a former instructor for the Black River Valley Police Academy in juvenile justice.
Gene was an Eagle Scout and continued to serve scouting as a member of the Tri-Rivers District Eagles Scout Board of Review Committee, Tri-Rivers District BSA Committee, and as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 496.
He and Amy were Fresh Air Fund Host Parents. Gene was a member of the Italian American Civic Association and the Sackets Harbor American Legion. Gene had a successful career and was active in the community, but he will be remembered by those who knew him best for his sharp wit, love of nature and unwavering love and support of his family.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 25th, from 4-7pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 26th, at 10am at Asbury United Methodist Church with Reverend, Michael Terrell officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
