Eugene Robert McGory died September 22, 2025, at home. Gene was born February 19, 1935, to the late Eugene and Margaret McGory of Rochester, NY. Gene resided in Rochester and Henderson, NY, Bisbee and Cottonwood, AZ.
Gene loved God, the USA, Pearl, his children and her children. He was an all around good guy and his life was varied and full. His happiest times as an Eastman Kodak electrician was before he had to use the computer! His hobbies were birding, fishing, hunting and trap shooting. His outdoor adventures included shooting a 6 point elk in WY in 1972. He shot trap until 2023 with the Henderson Trap Team. He was an excellent shot, and shot many 25s. He cut and hand split firewood until he was 84.
In his travels around the world, he watched a baby elephant go under mother's belly in Kenya, rode a camel to the Pyramids in Egypt, walked the Catacombs of Rome, hiked around Machu Picchu in Peru, sighted a rare Ross's gull on a trip to see polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba, swam with pink dolphins in the upper Amazon River, enjoyed the hot springs in Antarctica, watched a platypus and giant fruit bats in Australia, and many more.
He was an avid expert birder beginning as a small child (taught by his dad) to teaching Pearl, his family, and helping many others refine their birding skills.
His survivors include his wife Pearl, children Rhonda (Harrylee) Coates, Jace McGory, Brad McGory, Joel (Lee) Sherman, Dianne Palmatier, Patrick (Melanie) Grandelli, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters Mary Steele and Bernadette Puskas, nieces, nephews, and cousins. His son, Grant McGory, predeceased him.
In lieu of flowers, Gene would say "Support your local high school trap team."
