Eugene Mortimer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sippel Funeral Home - New Holstein on Dec. 20, 2025.
Eugene Merle Mortimer, age 90, of New Holstein, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Aurora Medical Center Sheboygan County.
Gene, as he preferred to be called, was born at home on January 25, 1935, in Chilton to Jess & Hildegarde (Binsfield) Mortimer. His siblings are: John Mortimer, age 94, the late Ann (Allen) Markwardt, and the late Sister Jesse Marie Mortimer.
Gene said he had the best parents. He really admired his father who was retired from running a farm near Brandt, WI. His father loved gardening and taking care of the house and did both perfectly, while working two full-time jobs. His Grandmother was also influential in his life teaching him the importance of being a good samaritan.
Gene graduated from Chilton High School in 1953 and received his bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from UW-Platteville. He was drafted into the Army while attending college and served in South Korea. Upon returning, he was able to finish his college studies.
Gene was gifted mathematically. One of his college math professors told Gene that if he could solve a few complex math equations that he and his fellow colleagues could not, he would be exempted from taking a math final. To his professor's amazement, Gene was able to solve the equations in less than an hour.
On September 26, 1970, he married the free-spirited Pamela Jeanne Hanson. They met at Victor's Nightclub in Milwaukee. Pamela had boldy told Gene: "I'll dance with you", after he was fortuitously turned down to dance by another lady. Gene was very fond of Pamela's parents as well, Gordon and Bernice (Falstad) Hanson, of Rice Lake, WI. They had great times visiting them with their then young children. The rest was their history together. Pamela preceded him in death on January 27, 2018 after a long, brave, and valiant battle through the years with MS.
Gene truly excelled in his profession and became one of the Vice Presidents and then one of the owners of the original Donohue & Associates, Inc. of Sheboygan, WI. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Construction Management Association of America in 1983, and elected President of the Association of Consulting Engineers in 1986. Prior to that he headed the Public Works Department, then, managed the Construction-Related Services Division. He had joined the firm in 1966
He loved cars, construction and concrete, finance and the stock market, taking his then young children to Milwaukee Bucks and Brewers games, pheasant hunting, helping out his family through babysitting his grandchildren alongside his wife, his black coffee, a good thin crust pizza with plenty of meat and veggie toppings, and a cold beer.
Another great man Gene admired and felt he was very much alike, was Elvis Aaron Presley, who was born 17 days before him on January 8, 1935. One of Gene's favorite songs was My Way, Elvis' version of the Frank Sinatra original song. He felt if there was a song that defined him, his life, and how he lived it, it was My Way by Elvis.
Gene is survived by his five Children: Heidi (Craig) Bogart, Holly (Lance) Dedering, Jess Mortimer (Trustee), Elizabeth Mortimer (partner Shaun Brown), and Karin (Robert) Kruithoff; Grandchildren: Bobbie, Taylor, Devon, Gavin, Alex, Levi, Cassandra, Kathryn, Samantha, Darek, Yesenia, Karmin, Adin, Griffin; 19 Great-grandchildren; Brother: John; Nieces: Paula and Pam, Nephews: Paul and Grant; and Great-nieces and nephew.
Cremation will take place. In accordance with Gene's stated wishes, no funeral services will be held.
