Eugene, affectionately known as "Grandpa," was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 1, 1937, to his late parents, Stanley and Sophie Novak. He was the devoted husband of Joan, his loving wife of 64 years. Eugene is survived by his children: Jeff (Jan), Paula, Michelle (1982, deceased), and Greg (Nicky). He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Ryan, Khyrstin (Matt Shepard), Kaitlynn (Paige Harmon), Leighanne, Emily (Jake), Matthew, Jilian (Matthew Van Dyck), and Rebecca (Jake). Additionally, he cherished his step-grandchildren, Matt (Jamie) and Ryan. Eugene was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Maci, Maverick, Brooks, Harper, Declan, Corbyn, Nathan, and Mitchell. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Lulu, who brought him great joy in his later years.
Eugene worked for Union Tank Car in Chicago for over 20 years before retiring. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He pursued a variety of hobbies, including gardening, photography, flower arranging, playing bingo, and trying his luck at the casino. He had a lifelong love for trains, spending countless hours building model railways and exploring his passion for locomotives. Additionally, he enjoyed creating elaborate nativity scenes during the holidays, showcasing his creativity and attention to detail.
