Gene Novakowski, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025. Originally from Chicago, Illinois and retiring in Rock Hill, South Carolina, he built a life filled with love, laughter, and so many wonderful memories.
A proud military veteran, Gene served his country with honor and carried that same sense of dedication into every aspect of his life. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in Germany and earned two medals for his exceptional service. He also enjoyed a long career as a pipefitter with Union 597 in the Chicagoland area. Gene had a deep love for golf, a sport that brought him joy, challenge, and camaraderie. He was a lifelong Cubs fan.
Above all, Gene was so proud of his family, cherishing his loving wife, Jackie, his two daughters, Deborah (Joe) and Danielle (Phil), his five grandchildren, Ross (Samantha), Torey, Tayler, Braden, and Elena, his brother, Tom (Mary Ellen), and many nieces, nephews, Godchildren, cousins, and friends.
A celebration mass will be held at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church on May 10 th at 1 p.m. to honor Gene’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice and Community Care (at 2275 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732) in his memory.
Gene’s gentle manner, kindness, humor, and steadfast love for those around him will leave a lasting imprint on all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his spirit continue to guide and inspire us.
