Eugene W. "Pete" Peterson, 88, of Galva, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Graveside committal services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 27th, at the Bishop Hill Cemetery with military services conducted by the Kewanee Veteran's Council. Memorials may be made to the Eugene Peterson Memorial Fund. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, Galva, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Eugene Wayne Peterson was born September 19, 1933, in Galva, the son of Clarence B. and Gladys B. Westlin Peterson. He was educated in Galva schools and graduated from Galva High School in 1951. He married Bonnie Jo Whimer, Elaine Cosner, and Jackie Stevens, before reuniting with his classmate and former girlfriend in high school, Shirley Johnston Marlow. They were married on May 31, 1985, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. She passed away on August 15, 2008.
Pete served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1957. He worked in the insurance business and was also a salesman for the Galva Creamery Company. He built prefab buildings for the Chicago School System and worked at Murray's Trailer Factory in Galva. He then went to work for Huber Brothers Construction in Peoria as a building architect, and designed many bars, restaurants, gas stations, and the Stackhouse-Moore funeral chapel in Galva.
Those surviving are five children, Charles, Nancy, David, Ronda, and Rick, 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and a sister, Bea O'Brien, Galva. Other survivors include three stepchildren, Karen, Diane, and Brian. His parents, his wife, Shirley, two children, Brenda and Scott, and two sisters, Joyce and Audrey, preceded him in death.
