Eugene Schrier

Eugene "Gene" Schrier, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 15, 2024, in Silver Spring, MD. He was born on September 8, 1936, in New York to Samuel and Yetta Schrier; the youngest of four boys (preceded by brothers Arnold, Eddie and Morty). He moved to Mount Rainer, MD at a young age, married Sheila Silverstein and raised his family in Silver Spring, MD. He is survived by his children Stacy Hudson (Keith), Scott Schrier (Pam) and Cindy Zahl (Adam); and his grandchildren Evan and Cecily Hudson; Rebekah, Rachel and Ryan Schrier; and Olivia and Abigail Zahl. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews local to Montgomery County, across the country and internationally. He recently moved to Hillhaven Nursing Home under the care of his beloved aide, Maria Kamara.

Gene was an avid sports fan and very loyal to his Washington "Redskins" as an original season ticket holder taking his family to RFK Stadium throughout the season. He was the owner of Veterans Liquors in Beltsville, MD for over 30 years where the store became an avid sponsor of local softball teams to continue Gene's love of sports for the community.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 21 at 11 a.m. at Shaare Tefila Congregation, 16620 Georgia Ave., Olney, MD. The burial will follow at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Adelphi, MD. Immediately after the burial, the family will be receiving for a Celebration of Life at the residence of Dale Morton and Irma Goff. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gene's honor may be made to the American Heart Association (Heart.org/donate).
