Eugene Seely

Eugene Seely, 82, of Shreveport, LA, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Christus Highland Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. Mr. Seely was born on January 1, 1944, in Broseley, MO, son of the late Eugene and Wilma Seely (Norman).

Eugene grew up in Qulin, MO. He graduated from the St. Louis Police Academy and was an officer for 11 years. He met his wife while working for the PBPD. He retired from Jack Cooper Transport in 2007. He was a 31st degree Mason, Master of Lodge for 2 years, Secretary for several years, and a member of Shriners for several decades. Eugene was also an ordained minister and enjoyed teaching Sunday School at several churches over the years, most recently at New Life Tabernacle.

On June 11, 1976, he married Marilyn Marie Seely (Colter). She survives. Also surviving are four children: Dawn Lynette Meloy, Sherry Lynn Watts, Jerry Dion Seely, and Tony Alan Seely; nine grandchildren: Michael Seely, Joshua Seely, Olivia Meloy, Grady Meloy, Elena Farabough, Tristan Seely, Belinda Lara, Kim Chambess, and Donnie Watts; 19 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother: Darrell Seely; his parents-in-law: James "Bud" and Grace Colter; and brothers-in-law: Kenneth Dale Colter, Don Clark, Jerry Parkin, James Evans, Leroy Colter, and Jack Colter.
