Gene attended Sam Houston High School, followed by military service. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, holding the rank of Personnelman 2nd Class aboard the USS Valley Forge, stationed in San Diego, California from 1948 to 1952. Gene embarked on a successful career as an accountant culminating with the Texas Credit Union League. His professional journey was characterized by integrity and commitment, traits that earned him the respect of his colleagues and the community.
