Eugene (Gene) Zurybida, Sr. passed away suddenly, but peacefully on Monday, August 7, 2023, at his home in Levittown, Pa. He was 77 years old at the time of his passing. The son of the late Joseph and Victoria Zurybida (née Senkow), he was born and raised in Philadelphia, and he attended Father Judge High School. After marrying, he moved to Levittown in 1968; he spent the remainder of his life working and raising his family in the Levittown area.
Gene will be greatly missed. He will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, poppy, and brother. Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Dawn (née Nolan); his children, Gene Zurybida, Jr. (Antonella), Shawn Zurybida (John), and Francis Zurybida (Kristi); his grandchildren, Cara, Amanda, Joseph, Jillian, and Nolan; and his dog, Mickey.
Preceded in death by two of his siblings, Joseph Zurybida and Susan Wieand, Gene will be sadly missed by his other siblings, Victoria Hohnstock, Virginia (William) Edmonds, and Marylyn DeBoer, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
As a child, Gene had a special untrained knack for diagnosing and fixing anything broken, from cars, to telephones, to washers. This skill led him to work first as a lineman on the powerlines, then to mechanical work on old and new cars, and finally to finish his career as a self-taught HVAC technician working on commercial heating and air conditioning units. Nothing was ever broken that Gene couldn't fix.
After retiring, Gene and his wife enjoyed taking ocean cruises, spending weekends at their trailer, going to Corvette shows, and celebrating life with their family and friends. In his day-to-day life, Gene passed the days tending his garden, going out for lunch and the occasional Yuengling, donating a bit of money at the casino, attending Trenton Thunder games, and yelling at the TV when Philly teams were underperforming. Not to be forgotten, Gene was also passionate about spoiling his dog, Mickey and his grand dog, Bear.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing and celebrate Gene's life on Tuesday, August 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Beck-Givnish Life Celebration Home, Inc, 7400 New Falls Rd, Levittown, PA 19055. His interment will be held at later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gene's name to the Alzheimer's Association: https://www.alz.org/
