Eunice Louise Scanlon

Eunice Louise Scanlon, 97, fortified by the rites of the Holy Mother Church, passed away on March 11, 2026.

The beloved wife of the late Charles Scanlon for 72 years; cherished mother of Tim (Barb) Scanlon, Jack (Barb) Scanlon, Tom (Linda) Scanlon; treasured grandma of Stephen (Niki) Scanlon, Chrissy (Adam Anderson) Scanlon, Laurie (Rich) Long, Amy (Danny) Reynolds, Megan (Brandon) DeClue, Elizabeth (Ray) Tubaugh and Michael (Gabby) Scanlon; great-grandma of Evan, Blake and Carter Scanlon, Addison and Emma Long, Gavin Reynolds, Haven Scanlon, and the late Rudy Scanlon Matute; dear sister-in-law of Audrey Holtgraewe. She was a dear sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Frieda Holtgraewe (nee Echelmeier), her brothers, Earl Holtgraewe and Harlen (Judy) Holtgraewe.

Eunice, born and raised in St. Charles, Missouri, lived a life defined by devotion to her faith, family, and community. After meeting Charles on a blind date, the two quickly realized they were meant for each other and soon eloped in 1949, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and laughter. A devoted Catholic, Eunice's faith was a cornerstone of her life and guided the kindness and generosity she showed to others. She was an enthusiastic sports fan-especially when cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals-and rarely missed a chance to watch a game. Known as a true social butterfly and often the life of the party, Eunice had a gift for bringing people together and filling every gathering with laughter and warmth. Eunice was also her three boys' biggest supporter, faithfully attending their sporting events and celebrating every moment from the sidelines. For many years she worked at Target, where her dedication and friendly spirit helped her work her way up to head cashier and the service desk, forming lasting connections with coworkers and customers alike. At home, Eunice found joy in tending to her garden, where she lovingly cared for her flowers and created a space of beauty and peace.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association and The Society of St. Vincent DePaul.
