Eurlando Ector Obituary

Eurlando Shawn Ector, 62, transitioned peacefully at his residence on October 6, 2025. Born in Columbus, Ohio, on March 4, 1963 Shawn was the second oldest of seven children, cherished by his loving parents, Paul William Ector Sr. (Roy) and Freddine A. Taylor Ector.

Shawn was a devoted son, father, brother, and uncle. Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, he was loved by everyone who knew him and he attended Walnut Ridge High School before pursuing his passion for welding at trade school- a skill he loved deeply. A proud member of Bethany Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor John Bradford, Shawn touched the lives of many with his warmth and kindness.

Shawn was blessed to live a full life of sixty-two years and was called home on Monday October 6, 2025 at his residence. He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved siblings, Elwado P. Ector, Paul W. Ector, and Andre Grier, as well as his nephew Marvin F. Ector and great-niece Marshae Ector.

He is survived by his cherished children, Kymani Jenkins and Amya Jenkins, and their mother, Denika Jenkins. Shawn holds a special place in the hearts and loving memories of his siblings, Monett M. (Justus) Ector-Thigpen, Kier L. (James) Smith, Toyia A. Ector, Sylvia L Toles (Derek Knight), and his brother David B. Ector (Erica Watson), along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members Lamont Copeland, and dear friends.

Shawn was known for his genuine nature, humor, and caring spirit. A true "Momma and Daddy's boy," he had a knack for connecting with everyone he met and was loved and spoiled by everyone around him. He could blend in with any crowd, you would think you knew him forever. Residents of Rainbow Park fondly remember how he brought the neighborhood together, looking out for each other with love and camaraderie.

Shawn was a dedicated worker, spending many years at Buckeye Steel Company while also helping others in the community with various jobs. Whether cutting grass and tress or assisting as a handyman at local barbershops, he was always ready to lend a hand. Everyone knew Shawn was "Hard at work every day." His generosity knew no bounds-he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

Shawn delighted in simple pleasures-enjoying oatmeal, grits, peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal cakes and Wendy's Double Stack with cheese. He loved to skate, play music, shoot dice, shoot pool, and play basketball. As a child, he enjoyed the thrill of the CB radio, proudly carrying the handle "Grove Line."

Shawn's life was enriched by wonderful friends and extended family, including Tina T Thomas (Pete), Anthony Barns, Kortez Thorp, Rhonda Lamar, Charlie Capers, Glenn Miller, Mark Hunter, Bobby Hunter, and Ira Littlejohn. A heartfelt thank-you goes to Mom Marie Gibbs for her unyielding support during his challenging times, when he needed someone to talk to, a meal or support through his trials and tribulations.

Shawn lived by the principles of faith and family. He often reminded us that "God and family first-over everything," and "God is #1-no matter the circumstances, you can't beat that." In response, we could only say, "Amen."

Shawn Ector's love and spirit will live on in our hearts forever. As we celebrate his life, may we carry forward his legacy of love and compassion.

Visitation will be held on October 23, 2025 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm with a Funeral Service immediately following at Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Service, 1370 East Main Street, Columbus, Ohio 43205.
