Eva Mae "Sanders" Carter

With gratitude to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we pause to reflect on the remarkable life of Eva Mae Sanders Carter. On Thursday, February 5, 2026, she peacefully transitioned from her earthly journey to eternal rest. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Born in Greenville, Alabama, on March 6, 1952, to Tim and Mildred L. Sanders, Eva Mae was educated in the Lowndes County Public Schools. She married Rethell Carter, and together they made Pensacola, Florida, their home in 1978.

Eva Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved daughter, Shante Denise Carter; and her brother, Jimmy Sanders.

A devoted wife and mother, Eva Mae's faith and love for her family were the cornerstones of her life. Her radiant smile and gentle spirit touched everyone she met. She faced life's challenges with resilience and grace, finding joy in cooking and sewing. Eva Mae generously prepared meals for church members and neighbors in need and lovingly cared for her daughter, Shante Denise, for 17 years.

As a faithful member of Houser Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, Eva Mae served on the Deaconess Board for over 25 years, remaining steadfast until her health declined.

She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband, Rethell Carter; two loving sons, Gregory (Kiesha) Carter Sr. and Jeremy Carter both of Pensacola, FL; five loving brothers: Ulysses (Darlene) Sanders of Miami, FL, Bernard and Curtis Sanders of Greenville, SC, Willie Sander, of Braggs, AL, Ervin Sanders of Pensacola, FL; three brothers-in-law: John (Constance) Carter, Lugean (Beverly) Carter of Pensacola, FL, and Thomas (Esther) Carter of Miami, FL; one sister- in-law, Patricia (James) Partin of Tuscaloosa, AL; eight cherished grandchildren: Gregory Jr, Gaven, Janelle, KaDaisha, Jeremiah, Myiaza, KaJavious, and Jeremy Jr.; and host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever hold her memory close in their hearts.

Service held at 11:00 am on February 14, 2026, at Houser Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church with interment following at Holy Cross Cemetery.
