Eva R. Sutton

Eva Rosetta Southerland Sutton, born January 14, 1938 was the daughter of William Dexter and
Rosetta Womack Southerland (both deceased). She grew up in Durham, N.C., the middle of three girls.
Eva graduated from Hillside High School in 1954 and from Virginia State University in 1958 with a
B.S. Degree in Business. She earned a Master of Social Work degree in 1969 from Virginia
Commonwealth University. Her employment in social work spanned approximately 25 years in such agencies as Lorberg Psychiatric Clinic (psychotherapy with emotionally challenged children/adults), Friends Association for Children (foster care and adoption), Department of Corrections (Director of work release for female felons), and Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work (liaison administrative faculty). She retired in 1991. Volunteer endeavors were in Women's Aglow Fellowship, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and Richmond Family Drug Court.
Although growing up in church, she heard the plan of salvation while in college and received Jesus as Lord and Savior inl 956. Since then her church memberships have been in Good Shepherd Baptist Church and West End Assembly of God for 25 years where she received good foundational teaching in the Word of God. In 1997, she felt led to join Faith Landmarks Ministries where she learned to walk in kingdom principles. She actively served there in the Clothing Ministry, Intercessory Prayer, Hospitality Department (servicing guest speakers), substitute front desk Office Staff, Ladies Pastors' Aide Department Head, the Hospitality Desk and Prison Ministry. She completed the 2 year curriculum at Faith Landmarks Bible Institute in the class of 2005. She later move to Summerfield, Florida in 2019 and attended Assembly of God churches there, Eva's passion was to mentor other women in the things of the Lord.
Eva married Edward (Walter) Sutton in 1957 and from that union was born one daughter, Evette Denise Hicks and two grandchildren Elizabeth Nicole Walker (Liz) and Victoria Jannell Hicks (Tori).
Eva looked forward to being with Jesus and joined him on her graduation day to heaven. Her husband of 54 years preceded her in death 2012. She is survived by one daughter, 2 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren,one grandson-in-law, 2 devoted sisters: deceased Doris A. Kiser of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Wilma D. Taylor ( deceased Tommy) of Lauderhill, Florida,a sisters-in-law, 2 God-daughters: Rev. Annette Powell and Rev. Jeanette Phelps, God-Son: John F. Mitchell; 2 nephews Derrick "Sonny" Kiser of Atlanta, GA and Brian Dexter Taylor (Dannielle) of Rochester, NY, and a host of nieces, cousins and close friendships some of which date back 40+ years. She felt blessed that the Lord put many wonderful relationships in her life.
Visitation will take place on Monday July 7, 2025 at LIFE CHURCH Assembly of God

Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 12:30pm.
