He graduated from Central High School in Knoxville, and attended Bryan College in Dayton TN. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with friends in the woods and on the lakes. He also shared his passion for nature through his career in taxidermy. Evan enjoyed the martial arts, making many friends and achieving a sixth degree (Rokudan) masters ranking in Isshinryu and a 2009 induction into the US Martial Arts Hall of Fame as a Most Distinguished Master Instructor. He also loved the challenge of weapons-based martial arts through his study of Arnis.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 5-7 pm at Stevens Mortuary, with a memorial service there at 7pm. A 3pm graveside service will follow on Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Fountain City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Evan's honor to the Ladies of Charity at ladiesofcharityknox.org) or to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org).
