Frederick Hall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bridges Funeral Home on Feb. 17, 2026.
Frederick "Fred" Bertrand Hall - age 94, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on February 12, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and friend, Fred lived a life marked by faith, humility, strength, and service.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ellen Dootson Hall and Claude Alexander Hall; his brothers, James Hall (Ina) and Claude Hall (Mary Lou); and his great-grandson, Silas Liam Pifer.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Marilyn Joan Roddy Hall; his daughter, Cindy Lee (Don); and his son, Dr. Steven Hall; his brother, Gene Hall (Carol); and his brother-in-law and faithful caregiver, Bill Roddy. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Fred's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Kristen Wilson (David), Kara Pifer (David), Kaleb Lee (Summer), Dr. Tyler Hall (Jessie), Dr. Luke Hall (Star), Riley Hall, and Levi Hall. He was further blessed with great- grandchildren: Eva Kate, Reagan, Virginia, and Ruth Wilson; Nathan, Isaac, and Samuel Pifer; Jack Lee (and expected brother May 2026); Ginny, Joanna, and Waylon Hall; Tripp, Boone, and Honey Hall.

Fred gave his life to Jesus as a young boy. He lived as a loving and humble servant of the Lord. A longtime member of White Oak Baptist Church, Fred's steady faith never wavered. Fred graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga, TN where he made his mark as an accomplished Golden Gloves boxer, affectionately known as "Fearless Freddy." His talent and dedication to the sport later led to his induction into the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame. Fred proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. His service reflected the same courage and commitment that defined every area of his life. After his time in the Army, he wed his lovely wife, Joan. They raised their two children in Chattanooga, where Fred worked for the Chattanooga Times Free Press newspaper.

Throughout their years, our mother was a devoted wife and a true example of love and faithfulness. She lived out her marriage vows: "for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health." Your family loves you deeply.

A special thank you is extended to Bill Roddy, who moved in with Fred and Joan to help with Fred's care during his decline. We are eternally grateful for the gift you have been to our family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Wheeler and Covenant Hospice for the exceptional care they provided, with special appreciation to Jessica, Donna, Rebecca, and Cindy for their compassion and support.

In his final months, Fred often spoke of going home to Heaven. He looked forward with great anticipation to seeing Jesus and the loved ones who have gone before him. His family finds comfort in knowing that his enduring legacy of faith will be passed down for generations to come.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Bridges Funeral Home. A service celebrating Fred's life will immediately follow at 4:00 PM, with Rev. Gene Hall, Rev. Riley Hall, and Jeff Duke officiating. Music will be provided by John Cormack and grandkids. A Graveside Service will be held at 12:30 PM on Thursday, February 26 at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Tyler Hall, Luke Hall, Levi Hall, Riley Hall, David Pifer, David Wilson, Kaleb Lee, and Bill Roddy.

To God be all the glory for the life of Frederick Bertrand Hall.
