Dear Standing Rock Sioux Tribe Oyate Family, please note the passing of a SRST tribal member with prayerful consideration for him and his family:
Evan Long Feather, age 35, of Little Eagle, SD, entered the Spirit World on Monday, June 10, 2024 at Mobridge, SD. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Wake services will be on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 7 PM, CT at the Blue Gym in Little Eagle, SD. Family and friends will gather on Friday at Rooks Funeral Home in Mobridge at 4PM, CT to process to Little Eagle.
Horseback riders will meet at KLND at 5 PM, CT.
Funeral will be at 11 AM, CT, on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the Gym. The burial will be at Good Shephard Cemetery, rural Little Eagle, SD.
Evan Hansel Elwin Long Feather was born in Fort Yates, ND to Charlene Long Feather and Frank Flying Horse Jr., on June 28, 1988. He grew up in Little Eagle, SD. Attended head start, Little Eagle Day School, and graduated from McLaughlin High School in 2006. He loved to play basketball all through middle into high school from playing at the basketball courts outside the Little Eagle Day School to being the senior guard for McLaughlin to hit 25-foot buzzard beater with 1 second remaining to win the Big Dakota Conference against Mobridge. He learned to love sports because of his stepfather Wayland Yellow Earrings, he helped push him to do what he loved to do. Eventually he moved into playing softball and played with numerous teams up till his passing. He received numerous awards from all the schools he attended, academic awards to sports awards.
He received his Indian name when he was very young. His name was given to him in honor of all his aunties and uncles Veterans in his family.
He met Karlie Red Crow- Gabe in 2019, in which two children were born his son Emmett Wilbur and his daughter Eivalynn Hope, whom he thought the world of.
Evan suddenly became ill and passed away at his home.
Evan is survived by his mother Charlene Long Feather of Little Eagle, SD, his father Frank Flying Horse Jr., of Madison, SD, his one and only sister Leah Long Feather (Noami One Feather), of McLaughlin, SD, and his brothers Tyler Long Feather, Forrest Yellow Earrings, and Lance Yellow Earrings, of Little Eagle, SD, the mother of his children Karlie Red Crow- Gabe, his children Emmett Wilbur, and Eivalynn Hope of Mobridge, SD
Proceeded in death by his grandparents Magdeline and Emmett Long Feather, his first-born son Dominic Spotted Horse, step-father Wayland Earrings, his cousin Brendan Long Feather, his sister Monique Phillips, his aunties Pearl Long Feather, and Toni Brigham and his uncle Linus Long Feather.
Casketbearers will be Francis Eaglestaff, Wil Howard, Derek Howard, Emmanuel Martinez, Daniel Uses Arrow, Elliot Black Fox, Darnell Kills Small, Cletus Long Feather, Donavan Yellow, Richard Long Feather, Eric Archambault, Tyrone Sudden Brave, Wesley Long Feather, Jace Long Feather, Charles Gabe, Kirby Three Legs II.
