Evan Haggard Obituary

Evan Phillip Haggard, cherished son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the age of 28.

Evan was born in Athens, Georgia on May 29, 1992. He attended Oconee County Schools and graduated from North Oconee High School before attending Georgia Southern University. He was employed by the Athens-Clarke County Court Clerk's Office. Growing up, Evan was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church and most recently was a faithful and active member of Nations Church in Oconee County. He was a longtime mentor to Jayden Billings and became very close to Jayden's mother and their family over the years as well. Evan's love for his family, friends, co-workers, church and above all, God, was immeasurable. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Nira and Philip Haggard and his maternal grandparents, Audrey and Charles Richardson.

Evan is survived by his parents, Patrick and Beth Haggard; sister, Emily Haggard Peacock (Scott); niece, Audrey Grace; nephew, Miller and his brother, Clark Haggard.

A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 1:00 pm. All attendants are asked to social distance and wear a mask.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Aaron Chang and the staff at University Cancer and Blood Center, Dr. Cody Gunn and Dr. Lee Chisolm for their treatment, guidance and compassion throughout Evan's journey.

In lieu of flowers, Evan's family asks that you consider a donation to Nations Church, 8780 Macon Highway, Athens, GA 30606, designated to the Mentoring Fund for the Benefit of Jayden Billings and others.

Lord and Stephens, West, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677 is in charge of arrangements.

Evan was my neighbor and friend. It was always wonderful to see him walking his sweet little dog Sophie. They were such a pleasure to talk with and we soon became good friends. We were always available to walk little Sophie for him when he needed us. We loved them both dearly and are devastated that the world has lost such a sweet, kind and loving young man. We felt as though he was family, a grandson. Our hearts are broken. This wonderful young man will live in our hearts forever. He is missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.

Words can not describe how heartbroken I am. Evan was so sweet and kind to any and everyone he came in contact with. He and I had some good times in the Clerks office. Judge Haggard, you and your family will be in my prayers. To me Evan will always be a ROCKSTAR!!!! He never lost his faith and he was always upbeat even with everything going on.

I am so sorry for your loss. Evan was such a precious person. He was so friendly to me when I first came to work in Athens and I had no clue about filing deeds. Every time I made a mistake he was so sweet, understanding and encouraging. We will be greatly missed but his legacy will live on in all those lives he touched.
