Evan Jeide, age 37, of Gurnee, Illinois and formerly of Mankato, died on Sunday, July 9, 2023 from complications due to a glioblastoma.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be provided by the Mankato Area Veteran Memorial Squad. Evan was born on February 15, 1986 in Mankato to Duane and Kathy (Johnson) Jeide. He graduated from Mankato West High School in 2004. Evan joined the military in 2011 at the age of 25 and attended basic training in Great Lakes, Illinois. After boot camp he was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia for 5 years as a U.S. Navy Engineman. He married Kaira Sawyer on June 21, 2013. In January of 2017, they moved to Gurnee, Illinois where Evan had been a RCD (Recruit Division Commander) for the U.S. Navy. Once medically retired from the Navy, Evan worked for Thor as an instructor.
Evan loved his motorcycle and riding with his buddies. He loved all Minnesota sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings. Evan and Kaira would try to go to at least one football and one baseball game every year. He also enjoyed spending time with Kaira and friends around a bonfire or in the garage drinking a beer. Evan sought out local breweries on the weekends with Kaira since he was into craft beer. Evan was well known for his bright personality by others. Everyone gravitated towards his positivity and friendliness. Evan easily made friends wherever he went. Evan’s smile and laugh was so contagious that it just made your day better. Evan loved telling his students a “dad joke” every day which showed his funny humor.
He is survived by his wife, Kaira; mother, Kathy Jeide; daughter, Evelynn Jeide; sister, Heidi (Dan) Nelson; niece, Morgan (Adam) Martin; nephews, Christopher Nelson and Kaden Nelson; father-in-law, Michael (Vicki) Sawyer; mother-in-law, Susan Meyer (fiancé, John Bender); and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Duane in 1995; and his maternal grandparents Rubin and Alice Johnson.
