Our Beloved Evan Lin, age 71, of
Orem, Utah passed away early in the morning on Monday, June 23, 2025 at his home.
Evan Lin, was born as "Yan Wen" Lin on April 16th 1954 in Shanghai, China. His parents were Dr. Robert (Tze-Yan) Lin and Professor Eva (Xuan Chen) Lin.
Evan was born and raised in a sophisticated family; his parents, grandparents and many ancestors were well educated intellectuals, some of them were well-known scholars, high level officials and meritorious national heroes.
Evan's great-great grandfather was the very first Chinese Christian Church Bishop. As a family tradition, Evan was baptized by the Holy Trinity Church (Episcopal) in Shanghai when he was three months old. Under the influence of the family, Evan had always been taught and encouraged to achieve the highest grades in schools; to manifest the best behavior in social events and to do his very best in any activities.
He graduated at the top of his class from elementary school, middle school and high school, and was a member of all different sports varsity teams, almost making the Junior Volleyball National Olympic Team. Evan also participated in scholastic competitions: He earned regional awards for Brush-Calligraphy--Painting, Chinese Classical Poet Composing, Mind-Calculating; Public-Speech; Prose Speed-Writing and Poster Designing at a young age.
Although during the "Cultural Revolution" (1966-1976) he was sent to the countryside and a shipyard to do hard labor, learning to be a farmer and a fitter/welder, despite the government's halting education policy. He continued to seek knowledge and study. Later, when the opportunity presented, he was able to attend and graduate from Shanghai Industrial University and earned a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering.
In pursuing higher and further education, Evan came to America, attended Stanford, Utah Tech and BYU. He completed his graduating studies at University of Chicago in the subject of Management Communication.
While he was at Utah Tech, to generate G.E. credits, he met his love and future wife, Patricia Joanne Hughes Warner. Together they raised three wonderful children and found great joy in being dedicated and loving grandparents to 8 wonderful grandchildren.
Other than the scholastic degrees, Evan was always interested in many different things for hobbies. He also utilized his spare time to obtain certificates in Photography; Culinary Arts and Barber Shop men's styling.
Evan was a Certified Translator for United Nation in Chinese and English languages; he also participated in Olympic Games as a registered interpreter for the International Olympic Committee.
In his later years, Evan become a consumer rights advocate, and was a contributing member for the Consumer Foundation.
Evan worked as a management member for McDonalds; Gateway Computers; Alltrand Staffing; Nu Skin Distributor Service and Pinnacle Security.
Throughout years of his career, he always positively encouraged his colleagues and subordinates, successfully trained and helped many people's growth to develop into managerial positions.
Evan believed that "Every Human Is An Equal; although responsibilities and titles may vary, the social division of labor should not be the difference in gaining status respects.
Evan was able to make many friends with all kinds of social status, included high-profile professional and college athletes; movie and theater actors; lawyers; physicians; accountants; business owners; police-law enforcement personals; sales and nurses, to plumbers, electricians, mechanics, and fast food workers.
Evan truly believed and followed the practice of Christianity, and always tried sincerely, to personify the practice of "Giving Is Happier Than Receiving". He generously helped a lot of people in many different ways. Evan was very well respected and loved by many.
Evan is survived by his wife, Patricia, and his 3 children and thier spouses; Phillip (Mary), Suzanne (Dustin), Julie (Travis); Grandchildren; Simon (Epher), Isaac, Levi, Brennan, Madison, Jordan, Kole and Shaylee. Evan was proceeded in death by his parents; Robert and Eva Lin.
Evan's funeral services will be held at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home at 646 E 800 N in Orem UT. A viewing will be held Sunday evening, June29, 2025 from 6:00-8:00pm and Monday from 9:30-10:30am with the funeral to follow at 11:00am. Interment will be held at the Orem City Cemetery.
