Evelene Madison “Carol” Jackson passed peacefully on October 13, 2025, at the age of 71, surrounded by her closest loved ones. A proud resident of Barboursville, Virginia for over 50 years, Carol was a true gem, sharp-witted, strong-willed, and full of heart.

Carol is proceeded in death by her father SGT First Class William W. Madison Jr, her mother Florence Evelene Madison and her brother Harold Lee Rainey and her first love Stoney Jackson and best friend and late husband Bill Stokes along with her four-legged partner in crime, Oliver.

She is survived by her brother, Duke Madison (Jeannie) along with numerous nephews and nieces; her daughter, Angela Jackson; her stepsons, Richard Stokes (Whitney), Bobby Danes, and Tracy Danes; and her stepdaughters, Michelle Sexton and Beth Albano. Carol also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Brooklyn, Brayden, Isiah, Hannah, Trenton, William, Andi Jo and the newest joy of her life -great granddaughter Alora Rose. She will also be deeply missed by her dear friends Danny Via and Sharon Engle, her newly found love, Morgan, her beautiful golden retriever who rarely left her side. The family would like to extend gratitude to her caretakers Brenda, Delores, Phyllis, Lisa, Becky and Tiffany.

After the passing of her late husband, Stoney Jackson, who lost his battle with leukemia in 1985, Carol showed her trademark determination by putting herself through college while raising her daughter and working full-time. She went on to become a highly respected CPA, serving and managing numerous businesses throughout the greater Charlottesville area. Her proudest accomplishments were being a mother, earning her degree against the odds, and proving that sheer willpower and a bit of caffeine can carry you through just about anything.

In 1998, Carol met Bill Stokes, the man who could make her laugh even when she didn’t want to. They married ten years later and spent their best years together until Bill’s passing from bladder cancer in 2010.

Carol loved reading, crocheting, and was known to take anyone’s money in a “friendly” game of poker. She also had a passion for “talking numbers,” and if you ever dared to debate her on politics or current events, you’d better come prepared, she rarely lost.

Carol is loved and will be deeply missed by her friends and loved ones.

A private funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville with Sister Delores Mae Buckner officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison.

Carol’s family invites all who knew and loved her to come celebrate a life well-lived, one filled with laughter, grit, and love (and maybe a few poker debts still outstanding).
