Evelyn Gore Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 29, 2025.
Evelyn Marie Gore died on December 10 at home in Northampton. Born on April 24, 1949, Evie grew up in Hatfield and raised her children in Florence. She was an incredibly dedicated and proud mom and grandmother, spending as much time as she could with each of her children, always by their sides, supporting them in overcoming challenges and reaching their dreams.

Evie was a deeply loyal friend. She remained connected to friends from all parts of her life, maintaining close ties to her high school friends, the beloved exchange students she hosted, and other friends throughout many parts of the world. She made new friends wherever she went, and she loved running into old friends around town to catch up no matter how much time had passed.

As a teacher in the Northampton Public Schools for many years, she made strong connections with students, colleagues, and families and always approached her work with genuine care and empathy along with lots of energy and joy. She was a lifelong learner too and graduated from UMASS Amherst with her Bachelor's degree at 61 years old.

Evie loved helping people, caring for people, making things for people, and making people laugh. She enjoyed hosting people, throwing parties and planning surprises. She volunteered for many local and national organizations, helped friends clean and organize, cared for aging and ill friends, and made and shared healthy foods. She loved making smoothies for her children and grandchildren and having them guess the ingredients.

She was a talented decorator and gardener and she brightened countless spaces indoors and outdoors with her bright colors and eye for beauty. She also expressed her creativity through painting, collaging, singing, playing piano and guitar, and knitting. She loved music, concerts, and dancing. She loved putting together colorful outfits and wore a matching necklace with every outfit.

Evie lit up rooms with her warm, bright smile. She was free-spirited and always up for an adventure. She was a more-is-more person in how she decorated her homes and gardens, in how she celebrated, in how she had so many friends and always included everyone, in how she loved, especially her kids.

She will be profoundly missed by her children, David, Jill, Sara, and Grant and grandchildren, Raine, Kayla, Cade, Jakob, Jimmy, Ava, Cece, Jackson, and Rui and many friends and chosen family.

All are welcome to join in celebrating Evie on April 26, 2026 at the Florence Civic Center. Evie was a passionate person and her family invites you to honor her through a donation to an organization or cause you are passionate about.

Evie always had a smile on her face and was a fixture in the neighborhood where I grew up with her brothers and sisters Bubba/Mark /Jane and Mary you always could count on a ride either going down to the center or into Northampton the other way on Elm Street. I had the pleasure of speaking with her when she was in the nursing home and we had a conversation that went on for hours and the memories that we talked about were priceless. My condloences to Mark and the rest of her family.
