FRANKLIN GORE Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Alavon Direct Cremation Service - Orange City on Mar. 18, 2026.
Franklin D. Gore, age 92, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026. Frank was born on January 4, 1934. Born and raised in Oviedo, Florida. He received a BA Degree from Emory University where he was a proud Chi Phi, and an MA Degree from Stetson University. After two years in the U.S. Army, Frank began his career at Lyman High School as a history teacher and assistant football/baseball coach. Frank left classroom teaching to become the principal at Altamonte Elementary and from there to be director of personnel for Seminole County Public Schools. In 1971, he moved from SCPS to become the director of personnel for Seminole Junior College (now Seminole State College), where he contributed to the incredible growth of that institution for the next 17 years. He was an expert in the Florida Retirement System, and he loved working with people and helping them make the most of their careers. He retired in 1987 after more than 30 years in public education/personnel management where he touched many lives and was gratified by the successes of those he hired and mentored.

Frank met the love of his life and lifelong companion Carolyn while they were both teaching at Lyman in 1956. They were married for 67 years, until Carolyn's death in November, 2025. Frank never fully recovered from losing her. Longtime residents of Altamonte Springs, Florida Frank and Carolyn enjoyed golfing at Rolling Hills Golf Club and raising a family. Frank was active in Rotary and volunteered as a marshal at area PGA tournaments for many years. In retirement, they traveled extensively, with a particular love for Grand Circle Tours and many trips to England and Ireland. He was known for taking pictures on those trips that rivaled any postcard photo. Frank and Carolyn were charter members of St. Marks Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. They moved to John Knox Village in Orange City, Florida in 2014, where they formed many new friendships.

Frank was a man of unwavering faith and a devoted Christian. He cherished honesty, family and friendship – and was always there when he was needed. He loved music, travel, sports, and reading. He will be lovingly remembered as a husband, father, grandfather and friend. In addition to Carolyn, Frank was preceded in death by his parents L.H. and Cleo (Malcolm) Gore; sisters Elizabeth (Harris) and Lucille; and brothers Milton and Gene. Frank is survived by his son Michael (Tracy); his daughter Susan (Debbie); and his beloved grandchildren, Matthew (Kiara), Alex (Brice), Nathan (Gabrielle), and Grace Adkins (Tyler).
