Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scot Ward Funeral Services - Conyers on Mar. 18, 2026.
STOKES. Lane Adams Stokes of Brookhaven, Georgia, passed away on January 16, 2026. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Pendley Stokes, and his brother, Richard (Jane) of Juneau, Alaska. He was preceded in death by parents, Wesley Lane Stokes and Agnes Adams Stokes. He grew up in Wadley, Georgia, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing on the Ogeechee River. Lane graduated from Richmond Academy in Augusta. He attended Emory at Oxford and Emory University. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from Emory and served for several years as a UMC Pastor. Later, he received an MS degree from Georgia State University and became a Licensed Professional Counselor. Lane was an Air Force veteran, a long-distance runner, and a musician (trumpet.) He and his wife, Nancy, were members of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church and the Blazers Sunday School Class.

STOKES. Nancy Christian Pendley Stokes of Brookhaven and Covington, Georgia, passed peacefully on March 16, 2026. She was born in Atlanta and grew up in East Point, Georgia. Nancy graduated from Headland High School. She attended Wesleyan College and graduated from Georgia State University with an AB degree in history. She worked briefly in the Archives Building, but eventually returned to her passion: teaching piano lessons. She began teaching private students when she was in high school and continued until fall of 2025 when her health began to fail. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Carmichael Christian and Berchard Bernard Christian. She is survived by first cousins, Carole Boyd Nation (Sid), Olin Boyd III (Jeanne), Janet Boyd (Bob Stevens), Howard Boyd (Kim), Judy Burtz, Cathy Carmichael Stilley (Richard), and Caren Carmichael.

On April 11, Nancy and Lane's ashes will be interred at the Columbarium of their church. A memorial service is planned for 1:00 on that date in the chapel of Peachtree Road UMC. The service will be followed by a reception at the church.
