Mrs. Evelyn Grecco, age 101, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026.Born in Plymouth, England to George French and Beatrice (Quantick) French. Evelyn lived through the bombing of her hometown during World War ll and served as an Air Raid Warden alongside her mother. During the war she met her future husband Louis Grecco of Schenectady New York, who was stationed in Plymouth before crossing to Normandy on D-Day. They were married on June 9,1945. In 1946, Evelyn traveled to the United States as a War Bride aboard the Queen Mary to begin her new life. She met her new family in Schenectady, New York but they soon settled in Chicago where they raised their two children Alan and Janet. Her parents later immigrated to the US to be close to their only child and their grandchildren.
In her 40's she earned her audiologist license and went on to own and operate A1 Hearing Aid in Chicago until retirement.
Evelyn and Louis moved to California in 1989 to be closer to their grandchildren. She never missed her grandsons' events and loved them dearly even after they broke her favorite piggy cookie jar. She adored shopping, her dogs and later found joy in QVC and HSN.
She was preceded in death by her husband Louis and her son Alan. She is survived by her daughter Janet, her grandchildren Greg and Dan and her 3 great-grandchildren Nico, Coulson and Archie. She always enjoyed their visits.
Evelyn also had three other (step) grandchildren Donna Zilske , Susan Florian (Kerry), and Gail (Chris) Pirics. She loved all of them. Had long conversations with Susan frequently.
Visitation Services for Mrs. Evelyn Grecco will be held on March 6, 2026 at 10:30am to 11:30am at Coastal Funeral Center. Burial to immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery with Fr. Charles Balamaze officiating at 1pm in Culver City, California.
Her favorite charities were ASPCA LA, Best Friends and PBS. She also donated to St Jude's hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ASPCA LA, Best Friends Animal Society, PBS or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Notable interests, activities, hobbies, or passions: Took classes to obtain audiologist license in her 40's and bought the business from the people she was working for on Lincoln and Belmont in Chicago. Operated A1 Hearing Aid until her retirement.
Memorable moments and achievements: In the evening before the crossing, all the ships were docked at the port in Plymouth. In the morning they were all gone. She wasn't sure if he had made it. He went AWOL from the hospital to let her know he was OK. Returned in time to not be deemed a deserter. She loved telling that story.
Had a collection of elephant figurines. She did not buy one herself, they were all gifts. She said if they had their trunks up, they were good luck!
