Joseph Gerber of Redondo Beach passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, at the age of 94, surrounded by family.
A native Angeleno, he was born in Los Angeles in 1931 and lived in Redondo Beach for the past 50 years. He is survived by his three daughters Susan and husband Dale, Miriam, Judith and her husband Dan; his five grandchildren Jacob and wife Natalie, Lauren and husband Phil, Christopher and wife Morgan, Cory and wife Hope, Michael; and four great-grandchildren Valentina, Liam, Joseph and Apolline.
He will be remembered for his love of gardening, reading, and music and his encyclopedic knowledge of both history and current events. He was an avid volleyball player who could often be found down at the Knob Hill courts playing with his friends.
Joseph took special joy in sharing his love of music with his daughters, often leading them in mini concerts “headlining” on the tambourine, maracas or bongos, while his girls provided backup and vocals.
He had a long and successful 30-year real estate career in the South Bay and in retirement he was a volunteer escort at Torrance Memorial Medical Center.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Abraham and Goldie Gerber, brothers Louis and Samuel, and sister Jeanette Hoffman.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 10 am at Coastal Funeral Center, 25001 Narbonne Avenue, Lomita, CA 90717
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to PBS, an organization Joseph felt strongly about.
