Harold Meredith Klonecky, age 98, passed away in Torrance, California on November 16, 2025. He was born to Irma and Constant Klonecky in Dickinson, North Dakota on May 22, 1927. Hal earned a Bachelor’s degree from Dickinson State University in North Dakota where he began his career teaching English and Drama. In 1955, Hal moved to Torrance, CA where he taught English at North High School. Dr. Klonecky earned his Doctorate of Education at USC. He spent 25 years at Torrance High School as an Assistant Principal and then as Principal, retiring in 1987. Dr. Klonecky was well loved by students, faculty and parents. Even at 98 years he was involved with Torrance High School retirees and led an active life.
When he wasn’t at Torrance High, Hal spent his time golfing and reading mysteries. He was an accomplished dancer and a sought after dance partner at social events. Hal was known as patient and kind to animals and humans alike. Hal is survived by his daughters: Theresa (Jeff) Heiney and their son, Erick; Jen (Patrick) Sullivan and their children Kieran, Aidan, Declan, and Bridget. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Klonecky.
Please join the family in celebrating Hal’s life on December 15 at a Visitation and Rosary from 4-8 pm at Coastal Funeral Center at 25001 Narbonne Ave in Lomita. Mass will be held December 16 at 10 am at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church at 25511 Eshelman Ave in Lomita. Friends and family can also join us for a reception at Hof’s Hut at 11:30 am at 23635 Crenshaw Blvd. in Torrance.
