TOLEDO – Evelyn "Sue" Icenogle, 86, of Toledo, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 12:10 p.m., at the Willow Breeze Hospice House.

Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Cottonwood United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time at the church. Burial will be in Janesville Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel is assisting the family.

Evelyn Sue was born on July 13, 1939, in rural Toledo to Scott W. and Esther (Satterthwaite) Padrick. She attended country one-room schools and graduated from Cumberland High School in 1957. In 1960, she graduated as an R.N. from Decatur Macon County School of Nursing. She married Ronald Icenogle on May 8, 1960, and they were married for 48 years until he passed away on April 8, 2008. They had three children, Sonja (Berlin) Peters, Andrew Icenogle, and Jennifer Icenogle. She leaves grandchildren, Brennan (Cheyenne) Peters, Kaitlyn Peters (Lincoln), Elise Peters, and Aften Peters. Great-grandsons, Braeden, Branch, and Braeth Peters. She also leaves two brothers, Donnie and Chuck Padrick; sisters-in-law, Carol and Janet Padrick; and brother-in-law, Dan (Jan) Icenogle. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Ron; son, Andy; and two brothers, Bill and Jim Padrick.

Sue worked at Rhodes Clinic for Dr. L.E. McNeill and SBLHC- ER for her 55 years of nursing. She had advanced learning in Emergency and allergy nursing.

Sue was a member of Cottonwood United Methodist Church and played the piano intermittently since she was 15 years old. She also taught Sunday school for many years, was a board member and many other positions including United Methodist Women's President and District United Methodist Women's Officer. She and her mother prepared many meals and bazaar items for church socials.

She was a member of the Cumberland County Home Extension Board, and president for the local Home Extension Unit. She organized a county sewing group to make dresses and shirts for children in Ethiopia, Liberia, the Philippines, and Haiti, while also personally making over 200 items. Sue had many interests and hobbies, including cooking, sewing, knitting, crafting, and reading; she loved southern gospel and country western music. She will be remembered as a giving person, making sure her family, friends, and patients had loving compassionate care.

Main Street, Toledo, IL 62468, or Lake Land College Foundation Nursing Scholarship Fund, in Memory of Evelyn Sue Icenogle, 5001 Lake Land Blvd., Mattoon, IL 61938.
