Evelyn Kaiser Obituary

Niantic - Evelyn Marie Kaiser, 97, of Niantic, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026. Evelyn "Lynn" was born at home in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y. April 27, 1928, the daughter of the late Svend Aage Randrup Jensen and Emma Muller.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert Jensen, Roy Jensen, George Jensen; and sister Kathleen Jensen (Wallace Deer). Lynn was married at St. Joseph Church in Hewlett, Long Island, N.Y. to the late George J. Kaiser in 1950, who passed away July 15, 1982.

Lynn was a graduate of the Mary Immaculate Hospital School of Nursing in Jamaica, N.Y. and a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. In answer to a call for nurses during World War II, Lynn enlisted at the age of 17 in the newly created U.S. Cadet Corps and, when the war ended, proudly served as a nurse, treating all her patients with the same love and devotion she showed her family. It was one of her patients who introduced her to the love of her life, her beloved George.

After the birth of her children, Lynn cherished her years as a stay-at-home mom, while volunteering part time for the Town of Groton well-child clinics, as a member of the Groton Nursing Board, as an assistant Girl Scout troop leader, and in various Sacred Heart Church and School fundraising activities including the fashion show.

As her children grew older, she worked as a nurse at the Odd Fellows (Fairview) Nursing Home in Groton, and Beechwood Manor in New London and later, after moving back to Long Island, at Creedmoor State Hospital in Queens, N.Y.

Lynn enjoyed spending her summers in Connecticut and her winters in Florida. She shared her love of life and sense of adventure with her friends and family and traveled extensively during her retirement years.

She was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Agnes Church in Niantic.

She is survived by her three children, a son, Jeff Kaiser (wife Alicia Mendez) of Hallandale Beach, Fla.; and two daughters, Joyce Kaiser of Niantic and Janice Walston of Niantic; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, March 2, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, in St. Agnes Church. Interment is in the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, N.Y. Flowers are appreciated or a memorial contribution may be to the Society of St. Edmund Enders Island at https://endersisland.org/donate in Evelyn's name.

Lynn was a wonderful person who clearly loved people and especially her family. She instinctively knew how to make people comfortable and her joie de vivre was self-evident and contagious. A grand lady!
