Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schaetter Funeral Home - Comfort on Aug. 10, 2025.
Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother, Evelyn Ida(Rausch) Saur passed away on August 8, 2025, after a short illness. She was 92.
Evelyn was born in Sisterdale, Texas on June 3rd, 1933. She graduated from Blanco High School in 1951, and married Richard Saur in 1955 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Comfort. They lived and worked in San Antonio for the early years of their marriage.
Evelyn graduated from Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in San Antonio as an RN in 1954. When the first Methodist Hospital was built on Floyd Curl in San Antonio in the early sixties, she was there to open the doors in OB. In 1967, Richard & Evelyn moved back to Comfort. Evelyn worked at Sid Peterson in Kerrville, where she became head of in-service nurse training.
After her career at Sid Peterson, she also worked at Comfort Nursing Home, the State Hospital, and in home health. She retired a second time at 80 years old.
Evelyn was the heart of her home and family. She raised 3 boys: Mike, Phil, and Rusty. She was quite a disciplinary mother, though it might not show.
She was married to Richard for 66 years at the time of his death in 2021. She was known as "Mimi" to all 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Evelyn's heart can be summed up in 3 words: faith, family, and service. Her first love was Jesus. She loved her Lord and Savior with her whole heart and soul. She also loved and treasured her family, and she had a huge heart for serving others. All her life she gave to others: nursing bodies and souls, baking treats, sewing quilts, sending words and cards of encouragement, leading grand march dances, and sharing her love.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents Max & Erna Rausch, brother Raymond Rausch, and sister Florence Weeaks.
Evelyn is survived by her three sons and their wives, Mike (Nadine), Phil (Ann), and Rusty (Linda), all of Comfort, 3 grandsons, Adam (Margie) Saur of Boerne, Terrell(Richelle) Saur of Boerne, and Travis (Ally) Saur of Waco, 2 granddaughters, Carissa (Josh) Taylor of Kerrville, and Devin (Zach) Borroum of Seguin, 13 great grandchildren, sister in law Ruth Liddell of Comfort and sister in law Rosemary Rausch of Comfort and numerous nieces and nephews.
May God grant us long and blessed memories of Evelyn, and may God grant us the comfort of his Holy Spirit as well as the comfort we bring to one another.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday, August 13th from 10 to 11 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Comfort with a Funeral Service at 11 A.M. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Comfort Cemetery. There will be a gathering and luncheon afterwards at Immanuel Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.
