Evelyn Stanley, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and devoted woman of faith, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, in
Roy, Utah, at the age of 85.
Evelyn Roepke was born on July 3, 1940, in
Hutchinson, Minnesota, to Herbert and Sylvia Roepke. She was the third of four daughters, preceded in death by her parents and sisters Carol and Marian, and survived by her sister Judy.
She was raised in the Catholic faith and, as a young woman, even considered becoming a nun. Ultimately, she chose a different path-one centered on raising a family-a decision that became the foundation of her life's greatest joy and legacy.
Evelyn was a devoted mother, grandmother, and woman of faith. She later converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 26 and found great joy in living and sharing the gospel she loved.
She was first married to Richard Stahura, with whom she raised eleven children: David Stahura, Kathy Stahura (preceded in death), Mike Stahura, Doug Stahura, Rob Stahura, Jeff Stahura, Paul Stahura, Jason Stahura, Jared Stahura, Thomas Stahura, and Steven Stahura. Kathy's two boys, Tim Stahura and Jeremy Erland, joined Evelyn's family after Kathy passed away in 1985 at the age of 23-a loss Evelyn carried with strength and grace.
Later, Evelyn married Ray Stanley, and together they built a life filled with adventure, laughter, deep companionship, and enduring love. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment and faith, joining two families and navigating life together with strength, humor, and grace. Ray embraced Evelyn's large family, and together they created a home centered on love, resilience, and shared experiences. Evelyn and Ray also welcomed their daughter, Rebecca White, who brought additional joy into their lives and to all her brothers.
Evelyn's greatest joy was her family. She was the proud grandmother of 34 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren from the Stanley family, each of whom she loved deeply and made feel special. She had a unique gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved. Whether through kind words, thoughtful gestures, a fun snack, or simply her presence, she uplifted those around her. In fact, many of the kids felt they were her favorite.
She was incredibly talented and hardworking. Known for her playful spirit, she loved to laugh, tease, and even surprise people just to get a reaction. Evelyn spent years sewing, quilting, gardening, and canning-creating not just food and clothing, but memories. She made quilts, Raggedy Ann dolls, clothing, and countless handmade items for her family.
She loved being in nature, spending time with family, and enjoying life's simple moments. Her kitchen was the heart of the home, famous for homemade pizza and gatherings that brought everyone together. One unforgettable moment included her starting a water fight while hosting missionaries, perfectly capturing her fun-loving nature.
In her later years, even as dementia gradually took hold, Evelyn's warmth remained. She continued to uplift others with compliments, gratitude, and kindness, reminding everyone of her gentle and loving spirit.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and extended family, who will deeply miss her strength, humor, faith, and unconditional love.
Evelyn's family takes comfort in knowing she is joyfully reunited with her beloved husband Ray, her daughter Kathy, her parents, and her sisters who passed before her. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a gift that will continue to guide her family.
Her legacy lives on in the family she built, the values she instilled, and the countless lives she touched.
