Evelyn Agnes (Evie) Windus, 84 of Duluth passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023, in St. Luke’s Hospital. She was born on January 1, 1939, to Jerome and Elizabeth Bieniek (Hadrich). Evie graduated from Cathedral High School where she met her husband Ted Windus Sr. They were married on August 30, 1958, in Duluth and together raised a family of seven children. She was a former member of Good Shepard Catholic Church and St. James Catholic Church, current active member at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea. While raising her family, Evie enjoyed reading, crocheting, watching the MN Vikings and listening to the MN Twins. After raising her family, Evie along with Ted Sr., enjoyed snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, camping trips around Lake Superior and road trips to see family and friends. Evie worked for many years at Cummings Greenhouse where she developed a green thumb and would tell you if you were watering too much or too little if she saw your plants in distress.
Evie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her stepfather Richard Hadrich Sr., a sister Francis Houle and a brother Richard Hadrich.
She is survived by her children Michael (Brenda) Windus, Steven (Lynn) Windus, Teresa (Pete) Bruno, Ted (Janet) Windus Jr., Doreen Anderson, Joseph Windus, and Beth Windus, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild on the way, sister Phyllis Bosiacki, brother John (Brenda) Hadrich, brother-in-law Dennis Gardepy, sister-in-law Diane Hadrich and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. She is also survived by her very dear friend from high school Rilla Opelt.
Visitation will be held from 9:30AM until the 11AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rosary Recitation at 9:45AM in St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Saturday October 28, 2023. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home. 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555.
