Evelyn Carlotta (Griffith) Yarde, aged 96, of Lynn, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Alliance Health at Rosewood Long-term Care facility in Peabody. She was born in St. Lucy, Barbados, West Indies, in 1928, and was the daughter of the late George and Ursula Griffith. Evelyn was raised in Barbados and graduated from St. Swithun's Girls School in 1941. In 1957, she emigrated to England, where she lived for 24 years. In 1981, she moved to Lynn, MA to be closer to her sister Ophelia Gaskin, and brother-in-law, Sydney Gaskin; both deceased. While living in Lynn, Evelyn was employed by the National Stay company, before working for the North American Philips Lighting Corporation until her retirement. Evelyn was an active member of First Church of the Nazarene of Lynn and enjoyed spending time with her family and listening to country music.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Wendy Griffith, grandson, Robbin Griffith, and siblings: Vashti Griffith and Harcourt Griffith, sister-in-law Theresa Griffith, and Corine Griffith. Her nieces and nephews are Brenda Boyce, Petra Griffith, Sherry Scott, Paula Chase, Jerry Griffith, Duane Griffith, Kevin Griffith, Ian Griffith, Joel Johnson, and Jeffrey Bailey, all of Barbados. She is also survived by her step-nieces and step-nephew Decourcey and Pamela Alleyne of Lynn, Annette and Sonia Alleyne of Boston, and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, from 10AM-11Am at the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway(Rt. 129), Lynn, followed by a service in the funeral home at 11AM. The service will be live streamed, here is the link:
