Evelyn Marie Zahorchak, 90, of
Front Royal, VA, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at her home.
Evelyn was born November 10, 1935, in Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Michael George and Mary (Grega) Gumbita. She was a graduate of Shade High School in Cambrook, PA, and even took a few computer classes in college while her daughter Kathy was attending.
She was a parishioner at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, a member and League Director of the Winchester Horseshoe Club and a member of the Women of the Moose in Strasburg. In her earlier days Evelyn worked at Burger King, the bowling alley and was a secretary at a day care. She enjoyed bowling, round dancing with her husband, crocheting and cross stitching, gardening, drawing, bird watching and when her girls were growing up, she was a softball coach. She loved coloring pictures on her iPad, playing BINGO, watching Science Fiction movies and she was even able to see every Star Wars movie in the theaters with her son James.
She married George James Zahorchak on May 30, 1953, in Central City, PA and he preceded her in death on January 15, 2018.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters Chris Stevens (Ernie), Diane Barb (Ray), Kathy Zahorchak and Lynn Zahorchak; her son James Michael Zahorchak (Kimberly); grandchildren Christopher Aubrey (Megan), Jason Smith (Anne), Stephen Smith (Skye), Christy Langford (Chris), Nick Rhea (Melissa), David Aubrey, Jessica Stevens (Stephen), Natalie Barb, Amanda Sale (Jeff), Brittany Zahorchak (Josh), Ryan Davis and Chloe Zahorchak; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Morgan, Evan, Liam, Draven, Skylar, Helena, Orion, Eisla, Jupiter and twins on the way; step great-grandchildren, Seven, Deigan and Dahlia and Harlow; her sisters Deloris Pasierb and Carole Nevitt (Jack); her brother in law John Lancaster as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Evelyn is preceded in death by her brother Michael Gumbita; sister Mary Louise Lancaster; her son in law Skip Miles; brother in law George Pasierb and her beloved chihuahuas, Pixie, Lucky and Mika.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation Wednesday (Feb 18) from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. at the Omps Funeral Home-Amherst Chapel, 1600 Amherst St., Winchester. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday (Feb 19) at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester with Fr. Phillip M. Cozzi celebrating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Cemetery in Winchester.
Following the interment all are invited back to the Omps Funeral Home Reception Center for a continued time of food and fellowship together in celebrating Evelyn's life.
Pallbearers will be Jim, Ryan, Christopher, Jason, Stephen, Nick, and DJ.
