Evelyon Doss, age 71, a beloved homemaker, was born on December 3, 1953, in Joiner, Arkansas. She gracefully journeyed through life, nurturing her family and creating lasting memories until her passing on December 13, 2024, at the Jackson Madison County Hospital, where she left this world peacefully. A visitation to honor Evelyon will take place on December 18, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN. Following the visitation, her funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM, with Bro. Billy Campbell officiating. Evelyon will be laid to rest at Providence Cemetery in Jackson, TN, with burial taking place at 3:00 PM.

Evelyon’s heart was filled with love for her husband, Gene Doss of Jackson, TN. Together, they forged a bond that stood the test of time. Evelyon was also a dedicated mother and stepmother, leaving behind her beloved children: daughters Lee Ann Cates (Jeff) of Ripley, TN; Summer Springer (Daniel II) of Jackson, TN and stepdaughter Tammy Canady of Bells, TN; stepson Gaylon Doss (Heather Williams) of Bells, TN.  She took great joy in the laughter and light of her seven grandchildren, with another grandchild on the way, and twelve great-grandchildren who filled her life with endless pride. Evelyon was also survived by her brothers, Robert Hankins (Violet) of Denham Springs, LA; John Hankins (Dawn) of Brownsville, TN; and Joe Hankins of Ripley, TN. Evelyon also leaves behind her dear sisters, Emily Ragan of Brownsville, TN; Shelia Powell of Halls, TN; and Crystal Powell of Bells, TN.

Evelyon was the heart of her family, always finding joy in the little things. She enjoyed playing internet games to pass the time. Evelyon also enjoyed reading her Bible, a source of comfort and strength for her throughout her life. Her warm spirit and nurturing nature touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.  She will be missed greatly by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

Evelyon rejoins her parents, Robert and Ethel Farmer Hankins; her stepfather, Bobby Powell; her son, Kenneth Earl Hankins; her brothers, Wayne Hankins and Curtis Hankins; and her sister, Cynthia Hankins, who have all gone before her. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home.

Pallbearers for the service will be Gaylon Doss, Logan Doss, Chris Vaughn, Lance Clark, Jeff Cates, and Chase Cates.  Honorary Pallbearer will be Dan Springer.

The family has requested that memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN  38148-0142.
