Born January 17, 1967, in Parksley, Virginia in Accomack County, to Charlie Corbin and Gladys West, Everett "Sarge" Corbin passed away on January 1, 2025.
Everett was a proud graduate of the Arcadia High School class of 1985. Everett dedicated 22 years of service to the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. His work ethic, instilled at an early age, led him to hold various jobs throughout his life often juggling multiple roles at once. While stationed as an Army Recruiter in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois, he met his beloved wife, Cassandra Wilder.
Over the years, Everett's diverse career spanned a wide range of professions, including a Certified Nursing Assistant, bartender, Corrections Officer in Macon County, IL, passenger service agent for United Airlines, Operations Supervisor at Caterpillar, and Operations Manager at Sherwin-Williams Flooring covering. These roles allowed him to connect with people from all walks of life, forging lasting relationships along the way.
Everett had a passion for meeting new people and was known for his warm, infectious laughter. A natural conversationalist, he had a knack for roasting his friends and family in good fun. His true love, however, was the game of pool, which he played with unparalleled enthusiasm. He was a member of the APA (American Pool Players Association). If you ever faced him in a game, chances are you were defeated by his skill.
Everett was also a die-hard fan of the San Francisco 49ers, and his passion for the team was matched only by his disdain for the Dallas "cowgirls" as he called them. Whether it was game day or just friendly banter, his loyalty to the 49ers and playful rivalry with Cowboys fans were always a source of joy.
The man with many names also played semi-professional football for two seasons with the Storm in Bloomington/Normal. An athlete to his core, he was the captain of a softball team in that same area for a number of years.
Beyond his hobbies, Everett had a deep affection for his family and his beloved fur children, Snuggles and Ziggy. His zest for life was evident in everything he did, and he approached each day with joy and determination.
Throughout his military career, Everett served in numerous locations, including overseas and stateside. He retired from the Army in 2007 while stationed in Bloomington, Illinois.
Everett was also a dedicated member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge and of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World, where he served as Exalted Ruler.
Everett will be remembered not only for his service to his country but also for his kindness, sense of humor, and love for life. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, friendship, and a life well lived.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Corbin; his grandmother, Dorothy Kellam; his grandfather, Preston West; his nephews, DeShawn Corbin and Kendrick Corbin; and his beloved pet, Gracie Corbin. He will also be heavenly reunited with his uncle, James "Cookie" Kellam and his dear close friend, Myron Bailey.
