On October 7, 2025, James Edward Spence, Jr. passed away quietly at his home. Born on April 14, 1968, James was the beloved son of the late Bernice Armwood and James Spence, Sr.
James was known for his easygoing nature and love of life's simple joys. He could often be found with a fishing rod in hand, a deck of cards on the table, or surrounded by laughter and conversation with family and friends. His warmth, humor, and down-to-earth spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
He worked as a mechanic for over 35 years, dedicating his life to his craft. James worked alongside his longtime friend, Sonny Bowser, at the junkyard - a place he remained committed to until just two years ago.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Bernice Armwood, his father, James Edward Spence Sr., his grandmothers Ira Spence and Leah Thomas, his grandfather William Thomas, his sister Joyce Ann Spence, and his brother Rudolph Collins.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sister Linda Polk, and though he never had children of his own, he lovingly helped raise and guide his nieces and nephews: Tykeya Knox, Elmer Polk Jr., Tymeka Knox, Rochelle Spence, Chekita Wharton, and Ricky Wharton Jr. He is also survived by his uncle Mack Kee and a special friend, Teresa Moorefield, who remained close to him through the years. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
