Everett "Jack" Givens, 88, of Tallahassee Florida passed on May 6th, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and family at the TMH Big Bend Hospice unit in
Tallahassee, Florida. After surviving quadruple bypass heart surgery and fighting lung illness in recent years, he departed this earthly realm with love, grace, and deep faith in Our Lord with his family by his side.
Born on June 22, 1936, to the late Opal and John Givens, Jack was one of five brothers (Billy, Fred, Jimmy, and Bobby). He graduated from Leon High School in 1954 and went on to enlist into the United States Air Force. During his time of service, he found himself stationed in Denison, Texas where he met the love of his life, Margie. When his service was concluded, he married Margie on June 4th, 1960, and moved back to
Tallahassee, Florida.
Jack owned and operated their Seafood Market store on South Monroe Street for several years, eventually closing it and working for Pepsi-Cola Distribution in Tallahassee. After retiring from Pepsi, he and his wife ended up starting a paperback book business at the local flea market which they maintained for 16 years.
During his life Jack was a very active man in his many joys and passions. He was active in sports, playing city league baseball along with all 4 of his brothers, playing city league softball, and city league bowling. He was active with family, always having family get togethers, fish fry cookouts, poker nights, picnics at parks, holidays and weekend visits. He was active in his church at the Timberlane Church of Christ, attending and leading the Golden Triangle church group from 2012 until 2024 when his health issues caused him to step down.
Jack loved so many things in life; he was a caring and kind soul to everyone he met. He loved writing poetry, watching westerns and mystery shows, working in the yard with his garden and taking care of his birds that flocked to his yard to be fed every day. He loved his family and friends and never hesitated to hug anyone that walked up to him.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Margie Givens, his children David Givens, Mary (Worley) Givens, Tony Givens and Cathy (Loscialo) Givens, his grandchildren Alex, Elliot, and Christine Givens. He also leaves behind extended family, lifelong friends and brethren in Christ who have all been blessed to know him. Jack's wit, charm, wisdom, and presence will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.
Final services will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the Timberlane Church of Christ in
Tallahassee, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to the Timberlane Church of Christ, Panama Mission Fund of
Tallahassee, Florida (contact Lee Jaimeson at 850-893-6469) for which he was so passionate to support.
