Everett M. Heins, 85 of Cherryvale, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the Presbyterian Manor in Parsons, Kansas.

He was born on June 2, 1940, in rural Cherryvale, Kansas, the son of Carl A. Heins and Treva F. Curlis Heins. Everett lived a life deeply rooted in the land and his community. His dedication to farming and his career of 35 1/2 years at The Post Office were hallmarks of his character, reflecting his strong work ethic and commitment to serving others.

Everett was proud of his upbringing, having attended Cherryvale High School, graduating with the Class of 1958, and furthering his education at Independence Junior College. He never strayed far from his roots, proudly living his entire life within three miles of his birthplace.

A man of faith, Everett was a lifelong Baptist, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cherryvale and the Independence First Baptist Church and took great pride in being an owner of General Motors vehicles, particularly enjoying his Chevy and GMC. He was known for often sharing stories that brought smiles and laughter to those around him. He loved spending time outdoors, indulging in his hobbies of farming, deer hunting, and fishing. Additionally, he had a special fondness for barbecue.

Everett said, wisdom, reputation will stay with you for a long time. Just stop and think if anything you are about to do is worth the cost.

On January 26, 1969, Everett was united in marriage to Phyllis A. Leedy in Sycamore, Kansas. They were married 56 years.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis A. (Leedy) Heins, who remains at their home in Cherryvale, and his cherished daughters, Brenda K. Heins and Toni A. Medlock (Todd K.), both of Cherryvale. Everett’s legacy continues through his grandchildren, Ashley Chalupka (AJ), Ashton Lee (Ky), and Trenton Medlock, as well as his great-grandchildren, McKinnley and James Chalupka and Adalyn Lee.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Treva F. (Curlis) Heins, and his grandparents, Avery and Viola Heins and David and Mary Curlis. His enduring spirit will be remembered fondly by his family and friends who will celebrate his life and the joy he brought into their lives.

A visitation will be held on Monday September 22, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wickham Family Funeral Home in Cherryvale. A Celebration of Life will take place at the First Southern Baptist Church in Cherryvale on Tuesday September 23, 2025, beginning at 10:30 AM, followed by burial at Fairview Cemetery.

Everett M. Heins leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and community service, and he will be missed dearly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
