Everett Lee Herring

Everett L. Herring, age 96, of Marion, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, at 7:42 AM on Friday, June 23, 2023.
He was born on November 16, 1926, in Pittsburg, IL the son of Artie and Verna (Barringer) Herring.
During the time of WW II, he answered the call of this nation by enlisting into the United States Navy serving in the Pacific Theater and after his period of faithful service was honorably discharged. He returned to civilian life for a short time and later decided to enlist into the United States Army serving as an Army Ranger with the 14th Ranger Company. He was injured while parachuting and was honorably discharged.
He was united in marriage to Frances Louise Moravec on September 2, 1965 in Marion, IL and together they have shared nearly 58 years of marriage.
His working career was with Marion Memorial Hospital as supervisor of Central Supply. He later began working as a correctional officer with the Marion Federal Prison until his retirement in 1989.
He was an adventures person right up to the end of his life. He had done zip-lining in his 80's, extensive traveling and cruising, boating and water skiing, motor-cycle riding, working out and exercising daily, driving until age 95 and working in his yard and mowing up to April of this year. He also was a lifelong supporter of the Republican Party something he was very proud of.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Marion. He also was a member of the Marion Elks B.P.O.E. No. 800 and a lifetime member of the Marion V.F.W. Heyde Pillow Post No. 1301 of Marion.
He always was interested in hearing about all the activities of his family and enjoyed the many times they shared together. The many memories created will now be cherished by those he leaves behind.
He is survived by his wife, Frances L. Herring of Marion, IL; son, Kevin D. Herring of South Carolina; two daughters, Deborah Harrell and husband, Richard of Troy, MO and Diane Herring-Winters and husband, Timothy of Marion, IL; seven grandchildren, Emily Akers of Troy, MO, Zachary Akers of Troy, MO, Madilyn Winters of Marion, IL, Angela Faulkner of Marion, IL, Lee Faulkner, Kevin Herring, Jr. of South Carolina and Christopher Herring of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Jutta Moravec of Marion, IL, other extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Renee Faulkner; sister, Hilda and two brothers, Edward and William Harold who passed away as an infant.
In accordance with his wishes there will not be any public service accorded at the time.
