Everett May, born July 24, 1927, in McAndrews, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025, Grove City, Ohio. He was a beloved man, leaving a legacy defined by devotion to family, an unyielding work ethic, and a life built through honest labor.

Preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland May and Louisa (Slone), wife Carrie (Justice), son Douglas Eugene May, siblings, Tolby, Tilden, Hettie, Hassie, Estie, Lora. Survived by children, Karen (Ken) Dillman of Hilliard, Gary (Erica) May of Columbus, Tim (Glenda) May of Wayne, WV, grandchildren; Anthony May, Carla Driver, Douglas May, Christopher May, Gary May II, nephews Jack Justice, of McAndrews, Ky, and Bob May, of Sacramento, Ky, and many great grandchildren and other nieces and nephews.

Everett’s life began and was forged during the Great Depression. His upbringing created a man of integrity and honesty, with a dedication to self-reliance and family.

The majority of Everett’s career was keeping the wheels of commerce on the road by utilizing his master diesel technician skills. He began with the Wells Motor Co. in Pikeville, Ky., after relocating to Columbus, Ohio he worked 25 years for George Byers and Sons at the Mound St. location, ultimately finishing his career with the City of Columbus Fleet Management Division, in 1992. At each company, he was the top diesel technician, specializing in the diagnoses of electronic systems. He was respected for his attention to detail, and unwavering dedication to excellence.

Outside of his professional life, Everett found great joy, in wood-working, creating grandfather clocks, buffets, building his own kitchen cabinets, and many other projects. If there was a motor that needed attention or diagnosing for repair Everett was the man that could solve all your problems.

He was an avid guitar and banjo player, whose melodies moved through the house like the gentle babbling of the water in his favorite creek. His musical skills, regularly brought a lightness to his family home.

Everett May will be remembered as a renaissance man, with interests so varied, they encompassed an intelligence with unmatched curiosity in every aspect of life and nature.

He was a steady presence, provider, and a man that lived by example. His commitment to his values will remain as a testament to all.

Friends may call at the Newcomer Southwest Chapel 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio 43123 on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 5pm to 7pm. Memorial service is scheduled, December 31, 2025 at 9am, interment to follow at Concord Cemetery, Grove City, Ohio.
