Everett Shrum, 94, of Overland Park, and a former longtime Erie resident, passed away at 10:22 a.m., Monday, March 3, 2025, Aventura Senior Living of Overland Park.
He was born on September 24, 1930, at Parsons to Lewis Grandville "Dutch" and Bernice (Peterson) Shrum. Everett grew up at Galesburg and attended Galesburg schools graduating from Galesburg High School in 1948. He then attended and graduated from Parsons Junior College.
Everett moved to North Dakota where he worked on the Garrison Dam Project. He returned to Erie where he went to work for Deucey Grain in Galesburg. Everett later became the manager at Foremost Dairy in Erie which later became Hiland Dairy where he served as the Regional Manager. He retired in 1995. While working at Hiland, Everett received his real estate license and later became a real estate broker. He became affiliated with Richard Wood Realty out of Pittsburg and later with Caldwell Banker Wood-Dulohery in 1995 for many years.
Everett enjoyed playing golf, traveling, trips to Branson, playing cards, and having a good time with family and friends. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a church elder and on the board. He was also a member of the Erie Masonic Lodge.
Everett and Lois Redman were married on August 9, 1953, at Galesburg, Kansas. She survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Brad Shrum, and his wife, Kitty of Overland Park and Rod Shrum of Overland Park; four grandsons, Cody Shrum, and his wife, Jennifer of Olathe, Brian Shrum, and his wife, Brooklyn of Overland Park, Ryan Shrum, and his wife, Megan of Seward, NE, and Tyler Shrum, and his wife, Regan of Richardson, TX; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Keith Shrum, Ernie Shrum, Kenny Shrum, and J.D. Shrum and two sisters, Leita Beard and Lois Bowman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2025, at the First Christian Church in Erie with the Reverend Wayne Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Galesburg. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. Friends may come to the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2025, to view and sign the register. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church in Erie, and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home 113 S. Main St., P.O. Box 182 Erie, KS 66733
