Roots and Beginnings

Everlena Morgan was a beacon of grace, strength, and unwavering faith. Born in Tunica, Mississippi, she was the eldest daughter of Helen Love and Lee Robinson, and the guiding light for her seven younger siblings. Her early years were shaped by humble beginnings, but they were filled with love, discipline, and the powerful influence of a God-fearing household. As a young girl, Everlena journeyed north to Chicago with her parents, carrying with her the values of the South-faith, family and resilience.

She blossomed in Chicago, graduating from John Marshall High School in 1961. A natural leader and vibrant spirit, Everlena served as a majorette and proudly led the Bud Billiken Parade with her baton, a memory cherished by all who witnessed her shine. Her joy in movement, her pride in heritage, and her magnetic energy captured the essence of a young woman destined for a life of purpose.

Everlena professed her faith in Christ at an early age where she remained steadfast in her beliefs throughout her life. She became a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she served and worshipped faithfully. Singing in the choir was one of her greatest joys, a true expression of her faith and love in ministering to others. Her spiritual walk was not just personal-it was shared though her kindness, patience, and unconditional love for others.

In 1962 on October 27, she married her beloved husband, Henry Morgan. Their union was blessed with three children, Janie, Robin and Kelly. Together, they built a home grounded in faith, love and service. Her greatest joy came from being a wife, mother, and eventually, a cherished grandmother and great grandmother. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the jewels in her crown, and she poured into them wisdom, comfort, and boundless affection.

Everlena was preceded in death by her loving parents and her dear sister, Allie Lee Williams. On July 19, 2025, at 5:26am surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren at Hinsdale Hospital, she joined the heavenly choir, peacefully entering eternal rest.

Her life was a true testimony of enduring love, strong faith, and quiet strength. Though she has departed this earth, Everlena's legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her journey was marked not just by years, but by the fullness with which she lived, loved, and believed.

Professional Life

Everlena dedicated over three and a half decades of her life to the United States Postal Service, where she served with unwavering commitment, diligence, and integrity. She began her career on December 3, 1966, at Chicago's Main Post Office as a District Clerk. Even in the earliest days of her service, Everlena stood out for her attention to detail, tireless work ethic, and her ability to navigate complex systems with ease and professionalism.

Her exceptional performance and leadership potential did not go unnoticed. In 1986, she was promoted to General Manager of Procurement, where she was responsible for overseeing the acquisition and management of resources vital to the smooth operation of postal services across the region. She handled her duties with precision and earned the respect of colleagues and leadership alike for her fairness, efficiency, and budget-conscious decision-making.

In 1988, Everlena transitioned into the Inspection Service, a highly respected and specialized division of the Postal Service. It was here that she made some of her most impactful contributions. Working in partnership with postal inspectors and law enforcement, Everlena played a critical role in identifying fraud, preventing theft, and ensuring the safety and security of the postal system. Her keen instincts, investigate mind, and unwavering sense of responsibility led to numerous successful outcomes.

Throughout her career, she received several official letters of recognition from the Postal Inspector in Charge. These commendations acknowledged her instrumental role in assisting with the apprehension of individuals involved in armed robberies and for implementing measures that saved the Postal Service thousands of dollars. Everlena's efforts extended beyond paperwork-they actively protected lives, property, and the integrity of a trusted institution.

Everlena retired in 2003, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and honor. Her service was not merely a career, but a calling-one marked by loyalty, courage, and a steadfast belief in doing what was right. She served her country through the Postal Service with distinction, and her impact continues to be remembered by those who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Following her retirement in 2003, Everlena embraced a well-deserved season of rest and joy, dedicating her time to the people and passions she cherished most. For 23 beautiful years, she enjoyed a fulfilling life surrounded by family, faith, and the simple pleasures that brought her lasting happiness. A devoted reader, Everlena found peace and inspiration in Christian literature, always seeking to grow deeper in her spiritual walk. Her home was her sanctuary, and she filled it with love, laughter, and the vibrant colors of her flower garden-a true reflection of her nurturing spirit.
