Fabian Anthony Jarzombek, age 89, of
San Antonio, Texas, passed away on May 30, 2025. He was born on December 30, 1935, in Falls City, Texas, the youngest son of ten children born to Joe and Febronia Jarzombek.
In his youth, Fabian worked with his brothers and sisters on the family farm and attended school in Falls City. As he grew, he became a gifted athlete, excelling in football, baseball, and track at Falls City High School. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Air Force.
After returning home, Fabian moved to San Antonio, where he married Margaret Benke. Together, they raised five children and spent many years building a home and a life filled with hard work and love. Over the years, Fabian worked as an operator at Howell Refinery and later at Lone Star Energy, from which he retired in 1997 after 16 years of dedicated service.
Later in life, Fabian married Vera Riggs, with whom he shared 23 happy years. Through Vera, he warmly embraced an extended family, forming deep and lasting bonds with her children and grandchildren.
Fabian leaves behind a legacy of hard work, reliability, kindness, and deep roots in the community he loved. Family and friends were of utmost importance to him. He enjoyed talking sports with his sons, going out for weekly breakfasts or lunches with his children, keeping up with his nieces and nephews, and celebrating milestones and holidays with loved ones. He stayed connected with longtime friends and regularly attended Falls City High School reunions, the Falls City Picnic, and Wurstfest. He was small-town proud and hometown loyal.
Fabian was known for his tireless work ethic and strong sense of self-sufficiency. He preferred doing his own landscaping, gardening, canning, car maintenance, and home repairs-often modifying tools to better suit his needs. He took great pride in working the land; he could remember when he planted every tree, shrub, and flower in his yard, and he was still tending to his garden until his final day.
Music was another passion in Fabian's life. He was an avid country music fan and the best whistler around-a skill he proudly passed on to his grandson, Zarek. He regularly attended dances at the Farmer's Daughter and Martinez Dance Hall and never missed a chance to enjoy music and laughter with others.
Fabian's love for life, his family, and his community will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. His gentle spirit, strong hands, and sharp wit will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Febronia Jarzombek; his brothers Vincent, Archie, and Joe (wife Mary); and his sisters Regina Kotara (husband Emil), Philomena Walkowiak (husband Frank), Barbara Daves (husband Max), Justine Clark (husband Walter Sanford "Sandy"), and Christine Eaves (husband Henry Paul).
He is survived by his sister Annie Milam (husband Gordon); Cecelia, wife of his late brother Vincent; and Sondra, wife of his late brother Archie, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his five children with Margaret: Ralph (wife Teresa), and their daughter Alana; Bobby (wife Carol); Ron (wife Jennifer), and their son Zarek; Lisa (husband Sal), and their son Matthew; and his youngest daughter, Linda.
