Obituary of Faye Yee Butte
Faye Jane Yee Butte passed away peacefully on May 29, 2023 at her home in McLean, Virginia at the age of 81. Faye was born in China in 1942 to her mother and her father, Ting Sun Yee. She came to the United States in 1949 and grew up in Washington, DC. Faye graduated from George Washington University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and worked in the computer field. She retired as a computer systems analyst with the Office of Naval Intelligence in the late 1990s. In her retirement, Faye enjoyed gardening, particularly growing tomatoes she would share with neighbors, and worked as an election day volunteer. She was a passionate feminist and advocate for equal rights and environmental issues.
Faye is survived by her daughter, Laura Butte; her stepmother Lan Coke Yee; her brothers and sisters, Keng Yee, Doon Yee, Vicky Lee, Jeannie Chin, Cleveland Yee, Donald Yee, Fonald Yee, and Jimmy Yee; and many nieces and nephews. Faye is predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Douglas Yee and Van Yee.
An end of life celebration will be held on July 2, 2023 at 3 pm at China Garden Han Gong, 11333 Woodglen Drive, Rockville MD 20852. Please let Laura Butte know if you plan to attend.
