Mother Faye Wayne Davis-Cummings was born on June 27, 1934, in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Wilbur L and Daisy B Davis. She attended public school at the age of five years old, entering the first grade, she then attended Davis Street Junior High. Graduated from Stanton Senior High School February of 1951, at the age of fifteen. In March of 1951, she attended Florida A & M College in Tallahassee, Florida. The counselor advised her to stay at the school until June because she was so young and did not want to be responsible for her. In August of 1952, she entered Clark College in Atlanta Georgia for two years. She went on to enroll at Edward Waters College. There, she received her B.S. Degree in Elementary Education. She also received a certification in reading from the University of North Florida and a Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She taught fourth grade, Junior High School reading, supervised a Potential Drop-Out Program, and was a Reading Resource Teacher, testing grades 10-12 in the Duval County School System. She taught reading as an Adjunct Professor, at that time it was called Florida Community College, Jacksonville, Florida; for twelve years.
She was saved at a very early age. She later joined First New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Deaconess Board, School Sunday Teacher, and she assisted wherever she could because of her Faithfulness and how she served well in ministry; she was named Mother of the Church. Unfortunately, when her health started to fail her she was no longer able to attend her beloved church.
She married the late Rev. Thomas Roscoe Cummings. She had six sisters and one brother preceded her in death, sisters: Wilbur Toatly, Carolyn Green, Jane Samon, and Madine Mitchell, and one brother: Danny B Davis, two grandchildren: Natalee E. Sanders, Lonnie S. Jordan, one great-grand baby Amber Bartley.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one brother Torrence Davis (Barbara), sister -in- law: Sharon Davis. Five children: Marilyn F. Clemons, Patricia A. Jones (David), Ben Jordan Jr., Walter L. Jordan, and JoAnna M. Johnson (Ricky), grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
Faye Cummings Family and Friends will never forget her beautiful smile, her encouraging words, her straight forwardness, her motivational talks about the word of God, her charismatic character, her love for God, and finally her elegant Sunday attire!
