Faye Elaine (Kirkness) Jasmin

Faye Elaine Jasmin passed away peacefully at the age of 88 after a full and devoted life centered on family, service, and quiet creativity. Born in Fargo, North Dakota, Faye spent her youth in Fargo and Minneapolis, graduating from Edina High School in 1955. She attended St. Olaf College, and in 1957 married her high school sweetheart, Jud. After raising her family, Faye earned an Associate of Arts degree in accounting from Austin Community College, worked part-time in bookkeeping and tax preparation for local businesses, and served as Treasurer at Habitat for Humanity in Austin, Minnesota.

Above all else, Faye's first love was her family. She was a devoted wife and mother who created warm, welcoming homes wherever the family lived, including Minneapolis, Ohio, North Carolina, Texas, Kentucky, and ultimately Austin, Minnesota.

She was an excellent cook and a gifted seamstress, with a remarkable talent for creating, repurposing and embellishing clothing and household items. Seeing intrinsic value where others might not, her creativity was matched by her resourcefulness and deep appreciation for homemaking. Faye also enjoyed gardening, crafts, walking, golf, and tennis. An accomplished and quietly competitive athlete, Faye was once the women's tennis club-champion at the Austin Country Club, an achievement she enjoyed with characteristic humility.

She was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, and later Calvary Lutheran in Park Rapids, where she sang in the choir and participated in women's organizations. She is especially remembered for her strong clear voice, and her love of music. After retirement, Faye and her husband moved to Park Rapids, Minnesota, continuing her life-long tradition of lake living. Summers at the lake, family gatherings, and hosting holidays brought her great joy. Faye lived a life defined by devotion to family, faith and an abiding appreciation for the value in all things.

Faye is preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Nettie Kirkness, brother Richard Kirkness and brother in-law Ralph Hohenstein. She is survived by her sisters Jean Hohenstein and Joan Perlich (Don), sister in law Marilyn Kirkness, husband Judson Jasmin, her sons Paul (Jane), Mark (Mary), Todd (Jan) and Scott (Cindy), and their families; and many relatives and friends who will remember her kindness, resourcefulness, and steadfast devotion to those she loved.

A service celebrating Faye's life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Habitat for Humanity or a charity of the donor's choice.
