View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Faye Shaw Ledbetter, 76, retired Maury County teacher, widow of Gene Ledbetter, and long-time resident of Oakdale Drive, died Sunday, December 12, 2010 at NHC Hillview. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Jeff Jacob officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, 222 West 7th Street, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Tom J. Shaw and Bessie Jacobs Shaw. She was a 1952 graduate of Columbia Central High School and earned a B. S. Degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a Master’s Degree from George Peabody College. Mrs. Ledbetter was retired from the Maury County school system after teaching 4th Grade at Santa Fe Unit School for 18 years and serving as Librarian at J. R. Baker Elementary School for 21 years. She was honored by the Maury County Democratic Party in 2006 as Educator of the Year and was designated as Volunteer of the Year in 2008 by the Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a member of the National Education Association, Tennessee Education Association, Maury County Retired Teachers’ Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, and was an active member of the Maury County Democratic Party for many years. She was a long-time, faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Ayres-Whitney Sunday School Class, and United Methodist Women. Her husband, Gene Ledbetter, died January 13, 2001. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Jean Cowart and brothers, Tom Shaw and Joe Shaw. Survivors include a brother, George (Kay) Shaw of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Vera Shaw of Augusta, Georgia, Mae Duncan and Clara Ledbetter of Columbia; brother-in-law, Paul (Gail) Ledbetter of New Market; nieces, Lisa Newcome of Savannah, Georgia, Barbara Kelley of Brentwood, Shannon Shaw, Jackie McMeen, and Vickie (Tommy) Logue of Columbia; nephews, Rodney (Mendy) Shaw of Sedan, Kansas, Will Cowart of Franklin, Larry Joe (Alice) Shaw, Chris (Angie) Shaw of Columbia, and Jake (Vickie) Shaw of Hazel Green, Alabama. Active pallbearers are Rodney Shaw, Jake Shaw, Larry Shaw, Chris Shaw, Will Cowart, Gary Ledbetter, Dan Buckner, Marshall Pope “Tommy� Ledbetter, Billy Cowart, and John Cowart. Honorary pallbearers include Maury Regional Medical Center Staff, Maury Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, 2008 Jesus in the Gospel Disciple Class, Maury County Retired Teachers Association, Oakdale Drive neighbors, Dr. Gaylon Harris, Jerry Colley, Mack Holt, Leatha Lou and Cecil Whiteside, Sheriff Enoch George, Ashley Brown, Steven Halloway, Stebbie and Jerry Wayne Houston, Phillip Holt, Judge Bobby Sands, and Trey Gray.
