Faye Brown Whitt, aka Mimi, of Tullahoma passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024 peacefully at her home at the age of 91.
Mrs. Whitt, a native of Mt. Sterling, KY, was the daughter of the late Henry Clay Brown and Stella Blanton Brown. She graduated from Mt. Sterling High School and then attended and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in education. After graduating from college, she married her high school sweetheart, James W. Whitt in 1955. She and her husband moved to West Palm Beach, FL where Jim worked as an electrical engineer and welcomed their first daughter, Stacye. In 1962, Faye, along with her husband and daughter, moved to Tullahoma, TN where Jim started work for ARO/Sverdrup, and Faye settled into a role as a homemaker. In 1967, their beloved son Andy joined the family. Faye and Jim were happily married for almost 60 years before his passing in 2015.
Faye enjoyed sharing stories with her friends and family. One of which included her first teaching job - where she taught all subjects including Spanish with little to no knowledge of the language showing her adaptability early on. She was an active member of the First Christian Church teaching Sunday School for many years and developing many lifelong friendships. Faye was the original "chairman" of the First Christian Church "Ye Olde Queen City Bazaar" juggling a sick child with the flu while simultaneously executing a successful event. She received an engraved silver bowl recognizing her efforts that she kept proudly displayed in her dining room until her last days.
She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, cook, volunteer, Sunday school teacher, entrepreneur, cookbook publisher, and caregiver. Faye's Santa and Indian cookies were legendary and loved by family, friends and fellow Bel-Aire Elementary classmates for many years.
Faye was active in the community and a wonderful cook as well as a successful business woman. She opened the Stuffed Goose Restaurant in 1983 where she shared her love of cooking with family and friends for over 20 years. During this time she also published the Bill of Fare cookbook and was honored as Tullahoma Business Woman of the year in 1992.
Her smile and sense of humor was infectious. She was a joy to be around and brought joy to all. She loved her family and friends dearly, and they loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed but will live on with the wonderful memories she leaves behind.
In addition to her late husband and parents, Faye was preceded in death by one daughter, Anne Chatman Whitt; four sisters, Etta Rea Guthrie, Christine Morton, Irene West, and Sara King and one brother, JB Brown.
Faye is survived by her daughter Stacye Reed Whitt Clark and her husband, Michael Clark of Spotsylvania, VA; son Andrew Clay Whitt and his wife, Aimee of Tullahoma; five grandchildren, Spencer Conley Clark and his wife Kayela of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Rachael Elizabeth Clark of Washington, DC and Elizabeth Clay Whitt of Nashville, Caroline Rowan Whitt of Nashville, and Sarah Wallace Hyde Whitt of Tullahoma; two great grandchildren, Charles Henry Clark and Katherine Lovell Clark of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and her "baby" sister, Bettye Sutherland of Reno, NV and many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, December 28 at 11 AM at the First Christian Church in Tullahoma with Rev. Tom Murdoch officiating. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, December 28 from 10 AM until the service time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Christian Church, 120 West Grundy Street, Tullahoma, TN 37388.
